Peshawar – Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday appreciated the performance of the Provincial Ombudsperson, saying the institution was playing an important role in providing speedy and inexpensive justice to the people, particularly in safeguarding women’s rights.
The Governor expressed these views during a meeting with Provincial Ombudsperson Rubab Mehdi at the Governor House, where she presented the institution’s annual performance report.
During the meeting, Rubab Mehdi informed the Governor that the institution had taken effective measures to ensure women’s legal rights, resulting in the restoration of properties worth approximately Rs4.1 billion to women across the province. She said the institution had conducted more than 19,000 hearings during the past year and was disposing of an average of 80 to 200 complaints and cases on a daily basis.
The Ombudsperson said that, for the first time, special open courts for women had been organized to provide justice at their doorstep, with significant participation of women in Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan. She also informed the Governor that Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) had been signed with the National Assembly and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to strengthen cooperation on public grievance redressal and legislation.
Governor Kundi commended the ombudsperson’s performance and said ensuring women’s legal and economic rights was a welcome development. He said the Provincial Ombudsperson’s institution was making valuable contributions towards providing prompt and affordable justice to the public and its services for the protection of women’s rights were highly commendable.
Ruet-e-Hilal Committee chief calls on KP Governor
Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday held a meeting with Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of Pakistan, Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, at Governor House where they discussed religious harmony, tolerance, peace and Pakistan’s positive role at the global level.
Dr Leif Hetland of Norway and other dignitaries were also present during the meeting.
The Governor appreciated Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad’s services for promoting interfaith harmony, tolerance and global peace, saying the world was in dire need of peace and stability. He said Pakistan played an important diplomatic role during the recent US-Iran conflict by bring both countries to the negotiating table, a role that received international recognition and reflected Pakistan’s commitment to regional and global peace. Governor Kundi said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa possessed immense potential in natural resources, low-cost electricity, natural gas, minerals and religious tourism, offering vast opportunities for investment and development.
During the meeting, the Governor presented a souvenir to Dr Leif Hetland, who, in return, presented his book to Governor Kundi.
