Timergara  –  Adviser to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Population Welfare, Zakat and Ushr, Malik Liaqat Ali Khan on Monday inaugurated the solarization, CCTV surveillance system and renovation project at the District Press Club Timergara.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner Basharat Ahmad, members of the journalist community and local officials. District Press Club General Secretary Ihsanullah Shakir welcomed the guests, while President Haleem Asad briefed them on the club’s activities, achievements and future requirements.

Speaking on the occasion, Haleem Asad highlighted the vital role of journalism in society and said that despite limited resources, journalists in Lower Dir continued to perform their professional responsibilities with dedication and integrity.

He thanked the provincial government for previously providing a grant of Rs50 million to the press club, which, he said, had been utilized transparently for its development.

He informed the guests that the reporting section had become insufficient to accommodate working journalists and stressed the need for constructing a conference hall. He also requested the provision of computers and furniture and called for the allocation of funds to establish a digital studio at the press club.

Addressing the gathering, Malik Liaqat praised the journalist community for its positive and responsible reporting, saying it played a significant role in highlighting public issues and helping resolve them.

He appreciated the transparent utilization of the previous government grant and commended the press club’s management for working honestly to improve the institution.

“The Press Club belongs to all of us, and I appreciate your sincere efforts to develop this national asset,” he said, assuring journalists that he would continue striving for the betterment of the club and support its transformation into a model press club. The adviser reiterated that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government firmly believed in freedom of expression and announced a personal grant of Rs1 million for the District Press Club Timergara.
