Rawalpindi – An additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ) here on Thursday handed down death sentence to a man for beheading an old man inside a mosque after a brawl.
ADSJ Afshan Ijaz Sufi convicted Mian Muzamil Hussain for beheading 72-year-old Chaudhry Abdul Farooq after a brawl and sentenced him to death.
The judge also directed the convict to pay Rs1 million as compensation to the legal heirs of the deceased. In case of non-payment of compensation, the amount shall be recovered as arrears of land revenue.
It was on February 9, 2024 that Chaudhry Bilal Farooq, son of deceased Chaudhry Abdul Farooq lodged the FIR with Saddar Berooni police saying that at about 6:45am, he received a call from people from their muhalla mosque in Airport Housing Society that some issued had happened with his father inside the mosque.
“Upon receiving this information, I rushed to the mosque. I found the dead body of my father lying there. His neck had been completely severed from his body by an unknown person using a sharp-edged instrument. We do not have any enmity or dispute with anyone. Someone informed the police via the 15 emergency helpline, upon which the police arrived at the scene. I will present the witnesses who saw the killer to the police on a later stage of investigation,” the complainant said.
Later, Saddar Berooni police learnt that a mentally ill woman carrying a kitchen knife entered the mosque at the Fajar prayer time. She attacked Abdul Farooq who overpowered the woman. In the meantime, Muzamil, father of the woman, entered the mosque searching for her daughter. When he saw Abdul Farooq overpowering his daughter, he attacked the 72 year old man with the knife and severed his head from his body, a police officer privy to the case told The Nation.
