Josh Grisetti, a Broadway actor best known for his roles in Something Rotten! and It Shoulda Been You, as well as his recurring role on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, has passed away at the age of 44.
Rob McClure, his Something Rotten! co-star and lifelong friend, shared the heartbreaking news on social media with an emotional tribute.
“It is with a shattered heart that I share that the brilliant Josh Grisetti took his own life on Friday,” McClure wrote, adding, “Some of my all-time favorite memories were by this man’s side, playing his brother onstage for years.”
In both the Broadway and touring productions of Something Rotten!, Grisetti starred as Nigel Bottom opposite McClure’s Nick Bottom. Additionally, he appeared on Broadway in It Shoulda Been You, originating the role of Marty Kaufman.
On television, Grisetti gained widespread recognition for his role as Ralph Emerson in eight episodes of the fifth and final season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. His other television credits included The Knights of Prosperity, Nurse Jackie, and The Good Fight.
Throughout his career, Josh Grisetti was highly praised for his sharp comedic timing, magnetic stage presence, and versatility across both theater and television. The Broadway community has been deeply saddened by his passing, with colleagues and friends remembering him as a remarkably talented performer, a kind friend, and a cherished member of the theater world.
KARACHI: A young doctor practicing at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) was shot dead during a robbery near Clifton on Monday, according to police.
South Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Syed Asad Raza told Dawn that the incident occurred near Teen Talwar, where a young doctor, identified as Akash Kumar, lost his life.
He said Dr Kumar was present outside a bank along with his father and cousin when armed suspects attempted to rob them.
“During the course of the incident, firing took place, resulting in fatal injuries to the doctor. It is reported that the bank security guard also opened fire, leading to a crossfire.”
“The suspects fled the scene following the incident after looting approximately Rs2.5 million,” the South DIG said.
He further said that Dr Kumar was unmarried and had been serving at JPMC for the past two years. His body was shifted from JPMC to the Chhippa morgue after completion of legal formalities.
The senior police official added that CCTV footage from the vicinity had been obtained to help identify the suspects. Additionally, coordinates from the route and the place of occurrence had been acquired for geo-fencing analysis.
DIG Raza said that during the initial probe, it was determined that the bullet causing the fatal injury was fired by the bank security guard, who had been arrested following the incident.
“A spent bullet casing from the guard’s pistol has also been recovered,” he said.
Elaborating on the incident, DIG Raza said Dr Kumar had withdrawn Rs5 million from a private bank near Dilpasand Sweets at around 12:03pm. He also made purchases amounting to Rs50,000 from there.
The police official further said that the doctor, along with his father and cousin, had travelled a short distance when they reached another bank. Around that time, four suspects on two motorcycles who were following them caught up with the victim.
The private security guard deployed at the bank, thinking that the robbers had come to loot the bank, entered the bank and took out his pistol. The cop said police were informed through Madadgar-15 around the same time.
As the suspects were snatching a bag containing Rs2.5 million from the victim, they fired two shots, while the guard also opened fire, Raza said.
The victim was struck in the chest by a bullet and was taken to a private hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Later in the evening, the body of the young doctor was brought to Teen Talwar, where his family had called for a protest. The family said the demonstration would continue until the killers were arrested.
The Young Doctors Association (YDA) Sindh condemned the killing of Dr Akash, saying such incidents raised questions over the country’s security. It said Dr Akash was an asset to the nation and criticised the Sindh government and police for allegedly failing to maintain law and order in the province.
YDA Sindh Chairman Dr Mehboob Ali Noonari demanded the immediate arrest of the doctor’s killers, warning that if the suspects were not apprehended, the association would consult the victim’s family and announce its future course of action.
The family ended the protest after talks with the mayor, the AIG and other officials late at night.
South DIG told Dawn on that police had received the forensic report, which confirmed that the fatal bullet was fired from the 30-bore pistol carried by the security guard.
He said the guard had also confirmed that he opened fire in self-defence, adding that police might not press charges against him. The DIG said investigators had obtained significant clues regarding the identities of the robbers.
DIG Raza further stated that he met the victim’s family members and assured them that the suspects would be brought to justice. Following the assurances from police, the heirs ended their protest.
PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati on Monday referred the controversial legislation seeking to expand lawmakers’ powers and privileges to the house’s standing committee for review.
In April, the provincial assembly passed the KP Provincial Assembly (Powers, Immunities and Privileges) Act, 2026, granting blue passports to members and their spouses, arms licenses, blanket immunity from preventive detention and making the speaker’s permission necessary before arresting members on criminal charges.
The law faced harsh criticism from the media and the general public, prompting KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi to order a review of the legislation last week.
Moreover, KP Information Minister Shafi Jan had also announced that the government would withdraw the controversial clauses and restore them in accordance with the 1988 Act.
Addressing a press conference in Peshawar, the information minister said that the committee would re-examine the controversial clauses.
Jan said that the act had remained under discussion over the past several days, with concerns being raised by the journalist community, the general public and PTI workers regarding certain provisions.
He said that taking these concerns into consideration, CM Afridi had also convened a meeting of the provincial cabinet.
“Following consultations with the speaker of the provincial assembly, it was decided that the controversial clauses should be withdrawn for reconsideration,” he said.
Jan stated that, in line with the chief minister’s directives, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of the assembly speaker, attended by parliamentary leaders of all political parties as well as the leader of the opposition.
He said that after hearing the views of all participants, the speaker directed that the disputed provisions be referred back to the Standing Committee on Privileges.
The information minister added that since the bill had originally been presented by the Standing Committee on Privileges, the committee would review the contentious provisions within one week and align them with the provisions of the 1988 Act.
“Members of the journalist community and the public will also be welcomed if they submit their recommendations,” he said.
The information minister added that most provisions of the new law were identical to those contained in the 1988 Act, with the exception of the clause relating to blue passports.
However, he clarified that the draft approved by the provincial cabinet did not contain any provision extending blue passport facilities to members’ children or spouses, or granting them as a lifetime entitlement.
He said the governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa signed the bill on May 6 and that it was notified in the official Gazette on May 7, yet no objections were raised by any quarter at the time.
“The issue has been deliberately highlighted to divert attention from the case involving Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar’s grandson,” he claimed.
The information minister maintained that both the PTI and the provincial government had reservations over the slow pace of the investigation into the aforesaid incident and would not allow the matter to be brushed aside.
The provincial minister further stated that similar amendments had already been introduced in Sindh and Punjab but had not generated comparable public debate.
“Only 992 blue passports have been issued in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, whereas approximately 56,000 have been issued across the country,” he stated, demanding that the complete facts and figures regarding blue passports be made public.
