GHOTKI: At least three people were killed and a woman was injured when a speeding car overturned on the National Highway near Ghotki on Sunday, ARY News reported, citing police.

According to police, the ill-fated vehicle was traveling to Punjab from Sukkur.

The deceased and the injured woman were shifted to the nearby District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Ghotki.

The victims of the accident belonged to Ahmedpur Sharqia in Punjab.

Earlier, the death toll in a head-on collision between a tractor-trolley and a trailer near here soared to seven after three more persons succumbed to their injuries in the accident near here.

The tractor-trolley carrying a wedding party met with the accident when a trailer coming from the opposite direction rammed into it near Sardar Garh, leaving seven dead and 60 injured.

Rescue 1122 shifted the injured to hospital for medical attendance, a district official said.

An Initial report suggested that the accident was the outcome of reckless driving.

Police are further investigating to ascertain the cause of the accident.

Road accidents are rampant in the region, claiming several lives. Major causes of the traffic mishaps included reckless driving, poor condition of roads, and negligence of traffic rules.

LAHORE   –   The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has recovered Rs10 mil­lion in cash and two vehicles worth around Rs35 million from former Central Jail Gujranwala su­perintendent Azhar Javed Cheema, officials said on Saturday. Addressing a press conference, the Gujranwala Director of Anti-Corruption said the recoveries were made in connection with a case in which Cheema is accused of receiving a bribe of Rs45 million from a citizen. The recovered cash and vehicles were displayed before the media during the press conference. According to the officials, the recovered assets were hand­ed over to the complainant, Afzal Cheema. The director said the action was part of the Punjab government’s ongoing campaign against cor­ruption launched under Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

LAHORE  –  Former PTI leader and federal min­ister Asad Umar has said that any discussion on the creation of new provinces should include party founder Imran Khan. Speaking to journalists in Lahore, Umar said the issue of new provinces should be de­bated in all provincial assemblies. He stressed that Imran Khan should be part of the consultation, arguing that the proposal could not meaningfully move forward without his involve­ment. Umar also criticised the coun­try’s justice system, saying that a properly functioning system would have provided relief to Imran Khan much earlier. He accused the govern­ment of politically isolating the PTI. Turning his criticism towards the Punjab government, Umar alleged that it had failed to deal fairly with farmers. He called for the provincial government to step down and apolo­gise to the farming community. “The Punjab government should apolo­gise to the farmers,” he said.
